coLab partnered with a global insurance company on an ambitious change management and training program to reboot their stance on innovation, and train their executive leadership and business heads to think like entrepreneurs.
As one of the largest insurance companies in the US, they have have unparalleled expertise in their field. To maintain their edge in the face of rapid technological innovation, they knew that they couldn’t rely on the same tools that had worked in the past. With technology disrupting every area of their business, from finding an optometrist, to buying glasses, and even diagnosing neurological conditions through the eye, it was time to invest heavily in building their innovation capabilities.
When it comes to seeing the future, no one’s eyesight is 20/20. Their leadership team realized that they needed an innovation reboot, from the outside in. How can you train your executive leaders to see opportunities for innovation, and think like entrepreneurs? How can you get them excited about new developments in their industry, giving them exposure to new technologies and thought leaders in the space? How do you educate, excite, and entertain them? How can we educate our senior leadership on innovation trends in our industry, while preparing them to engage with next-generation startups?
The solution was a series of executive leadership workshops, training, demo days, storytelling, and more – taking a bespoke multi-pronged approach that tackled multiple areas where the business was struggling. Our team did deep dives across the client’s business to understand the company’s major strategic initiatives, and understand the roles of each executive in the program. Once we had this context, we were able to strategically select the most relevant startups, and present them in a way that was more valuable for our audience of busy executives. From pre-showcase content, to storytelling and contextualization during the presentation, and ongoing workshop facilitation, we made sure that the stakeholders were equipped with the tools they needed to productively engage with the innovation ecosystem.
Just 8 months later, we’ve helped their team have meaningful conversations internally about leveraging technology to grow and scale. For our client, it was important that they had the opportunity to engage with, and invest in, next-generation technology with additional potential for partnerships, commercial pilots, and beyond. At the same time, getting their team exposure to thought leadership, professional development, and industry insights into major innovation trends impacting the healthcare and insurance industries was critical. All of this education and engagement is supported by an ongoing curriculum to ensure executives think like innovators. Commercialization opportunities and pilots are in development where nothing had been successfully launched before, and the technology is already having an “incredible impact” in the words of a senior business leader.
